Early Life
Amelia Walmsley was born on 31 January 2004 to Kerry Walmsley and Lesley Walmsley. She grew up in Auckland, New Zealand, and has younger sisters, Kyah and Bella.
Walmsley did Fun Ferns at 4, which was a fun introduction to netball for little children. From there, she fell in love with the sport and has been playing since.
Education
Walmsley attended at Howick College. She studies extramurally toward a Bachelor of Communications majoring in digital marketing.
Career
Amelia played for the Tactix for a two individual week-long contract and a 12-day contract. She got on the court for three out of the five games she was in.
In 2021, Walmsley played for the Northern Comets in the National League. She also played in the U15a team in 2019 and the U17a team in their nationals week.
Shooter Amelia received an offer for a professional contract with the Pulse during her final year at high school. Her first season with the team in 2022 was all about learning for her. She spent time soaking up the action from the sideline.
Walmsley is the youngest member of the team and part of the starting line-up. On debut, she shot 36/41 against the Roses to guide the Silver Ferns to a 57-36 victory to level the series. She went even better in the decider with 40/44 to retain the trophy for New Zealand.
Elite-level netballer Walmsley made it to the Silver Ferns’ 2023-24 national squad. She seized her opportunity against the England side after debuting in a 2023 win in Porirua. She joined the Pulse after leaving Howick College in 2022.
Amelia made it on the Silver Ferns squad for the Taini Jamison Trophy after a breakout season with the Central Pulse. She made it on coach Julie Seymour’s first New Zealand under-21 squad for the 2023-24 Silver Ferns squad.
1.92m shooter Amelia Walmsley delivered a breakthrough campaign in 2023. She grabbed every opportunity to cement her mark at the elite level during the season. She is under the guidance of McCausland-Durie after former Silver Fern Temepara Bailey coached her.
Apart from playing netball, Walmsley works part-time in after-school childcare. She also does netball coaching.
