Haylea has a sister, Danielle Gardiner, who she has always been close to. They were born only 16 months apart and wound up with AFL footballers. She and her sister moved to Melbourne within six months of each other to be with their partners.
The sisters also were getting married six days apart. Haylea and her husband tied the knot in a ceremony at Glenelg Beach, Adelaide, on 24 October 2009.
Cooney proposed to Haylea with a Burger Ring after dating for four years. The celebrity couple has two children – a son, Jaxon, and a daughter, Ashlea.
Haylea wore a stunning ivory full-skirted Baccini and Hill dress with a jeweled satin sash. Her daughter Ashlea suffered a stroke at birth.
In September 2022, Haylea didn’t follow the ‘black tie’ dress code for the year’s Brownlow Medal in Melbourne on Sunday night. Instead, she rocked late in a blazer and shorts instead of the customary cocktail dress.
Haylea had often come to the Brownlow during her husband’s football career.
Haylea was named one of the worst-dressed for her shiny, leather-like strapless gown. She admitted to shedding tears over the harsh criticism of her dress in a 2016 Herald Sun article.
