Megan Gale (born 7 August 1975) is an Australian model and actress. She is best known as a cast in a series of advertisements for Italian Omnitel (Vodafone).
After many successful years of working, Gale entered a model contest in her hometown and won. She has appeared in movies such as Vacanze di Natale 2000, The Water Diviner (2014), and Mad Max: Fury Road (2015).
Megan Gale was born on 7 August 1975 in Parmelia, a southern suburb of Perth, Western Australia. Her father, Alan, was English, while her mother, May Gale, is part Maori. She has two older brothers and is the youngest of three children.
Career
As a teenager, Gale entered and won a modelling competition in Perth. She rose to prominence in 1999 after appearing in advertisements for Omnitel, now Vodafone Italy. She continued to feature in the company’s adverts until 2006.
In 2003, the Australian Tourist Commission retained Gale as the face of Australia in Italy. In 2005, she joined the Nine Network travel show Getaway as a guest reporter and became the National Ambassador for Kids Help Line.
In October 2006, she co-hosted the documentary TV show What a Year alongside Mike Munro.
Gale has appeared on the covers of many local and Italian magazines. She has graced Australian Marie Claire, Grazia, Gioia, Italian Maxim, Australian InStyle, and many others. She has also featured in editorials for Australian Cosmopolitan and Vogue Italia.
As a model, Gale has worked for top Italian fashion houses, including Gianfranco Ferré, Genny, and Gai Mattiolo. She has also done runway work for Mariella Burani and Angelo Marani at Milan Fashion Week.
Gale was the fashion commentator for the Australian television awards, the Logies, in 2006.
After 15 years as a runway model, Gale announced her retirement in January 2008. However, in 2011, she returned to the runway and closed Alex Perry’s Melbourne Fashion Festival show.
As an actress, Gale has played many roles in movies since 1999. She played Dr. Orbit’s secretary in Stealth (2005), Francesca Moretti in I Love You Too (2010), and Fatma in The Water Diviner (2014).
In 2009, Gale portrayed Italian supermodel Francesca Moretti in the romantic comedy I Love You Too. In 2010, she launched a swimwear label, Isola.
Gale joined Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, and Gwen Stefani as an ambassador for L’Oréal Paris in August 2011. She has appeared in L’Oréal shampoo commercials in New Zealand, Australia, and Italy.
The star model appeared briefly on Australia’s Next Top Model, Cycle 4, and Cycle 6 (2010). She became the first official National Ambassador for The Red Cross in 2009.
Gale started hosting Project Runway Australia and later became a judge and executive producer of the reality show in 2011. She became a permanent judge on Australia’s Next Top Model in 2016.
In 2014, Gale played Fatma in the drama film The Water Diviner and Valkyrie in the 2015 post-apocalyptic action film Mad Max: Fury Road.
Megan ran a skincare business, Mindful Life, which had collapsed in 2020. She opened and closed the show for David Jones’ Autumn/Winter collection at its flagship Melbourne store in March 2024.
Personal life
Megan Gale is currently engaged to former AFL star Shaun Hampson. Although Megan is 13 years older than Shaun, she says she is happy with the way she’s aging.
The pair met in 2011, first dated over Skype, and had long-distance relationships. Shaun popped the question in 2017 and opened up about his marriage plans in 2019.
Gorgeous couple Megan and Shaun are parents of two and live together in Melbourne. They welcomed their son River into the family on 13 May 2014. After three years, they had their daughter Rosie in 2017.
Gale lost her father, Alan, to asbestos-related cancer in 2014. Her brother, Jason Gale, passed away in July 2020.
