Nagi Maehashi is a Japanese-born author and food blogger. She is best known for running the food blog RecipeTin Eats since 2014.

Maehashi worked as a Group Deputy Chief Financial Officer for construction firm Multiplex before launching her food blog. She has never worked in a restaurant or had formal chef training, but her passion for food keeps her going.

Early Life

Nagi Maehashi was born in Japan, an island country in East Asia. She moved with her family to Sydney, the capital of New South Wales in 1981. Although she grew up in Sydney, she has traveled the world from Europe to the Middle East, across Asia and America.

Coming from a ‘foodie family’ has also helped her journey. Her mother, Yumiko, is a passionate home cook. In her childhood, her family would spend the weekends fishing for sashimi since they couldn’t get sashimi-grade fish.

Nagi Maehashi was an executive in a corporate finance firm before she left to create a food blog.

To get her business online, Nagi created Recipe Tin Eats with a $50 WordPress website template. She then bought a second-hand DSLR camera and props worth $250. She now makes recipes, takes photos of them, writes them, and makes tutorial videos on her blog RecipeTin Eats.

Eight months into her business, it grew to become Australia’s top food blog and now. It hit around 2.5 million monthly views and had over 1.8 million readers by 2016.

The food blog hit 350 million page views, had 3.5 million followers on Facebook, and almost a million followers on Instagram by 2021. She makes money from adverts, sponsored posts, e-book sales, and writing recipes.

The global publishing juggernaut Pan Macmillan published her cookbook RecipeTin Eats: Dinner. Readers bought over 253,000 copies to earn it the country’s bestselling title in 2023. She announced she’d be hosting a conference in the United States on how to make money from blogging.

Nagi Maehashi is Australia’s top food blogger and ranks around 40th globally. She also adds to her earnings from being an influencer on social media and fees for appearances and presentations. RecipeTin Eats has 1.3 million followers on Instagram, 3.7 million followers on Facebook, and 589.7k followers on Pinterest.

Maehashi also gives back to society. She launched her foodbank, RecipeTin Meals, during the pandemic in 2021 to make homemade meals for donating to the vulnerable.

Personal Life

Nagi Maehashi is single. She owns a four-bedroom Victorian-style home in Hunters Hill, Sydney’s northwest. She is a dog lover and owns a dog, Dozer, a large and cheeky golden retriever.
