May 11, 2024Sam Darcy (born 19 July 2003) is an Australian rules football player. He plays for the Western Bulldogs in the Australian Football League (AFL).
The father-son recruit was the number 2 pick in the 2022 national draft. He booted a goal from eight disposals in the elimination-final loss to Fremantle in Perth in 2022. He re-signed with the Bulldogs for two years until the end of 2025.

Early Life
Sam Darcy was born on 19 July 2003 and grew up in Melbourne’s inner eastern suburbs. His father, Luke Darcy, played for the Bulldogs and was the former captain and club director.
His grandfather, David Darcy, was also a Bulldogs legend. His maternal grandfather, David Shaw, played for Essendon.
Career

The third-generation Western Bulldog was the second pick in the 2021 AFL national draft as a father-son selection. He impressed many throughout Vic Metro fixtures – kicking six goals in a U19s trial game. He has also played on a wing for Oakleigh Chargers.
Darcy has played many positions in the reserves – the ruck, center half-back, key defense, center half-forward, and deep forward. He has displayed his ability to be a strong marking target and to collect balls at ground level.
Sam Darcy joined Western Bulldogs in November 2021. He re-signed with the AFL club for two years until the end of 2025. He made his AFL debut for the Western Bulldogs at Docklands Stadium with ten disposals and eight marks in a 17-point loss to Fremantle in August 2022.
Darcy returned to the field with Footscray in round eight of the VFL in 2022. He arrived at Whitten Oval with an ongoing navicular bone stress fracture in his foot.
The injury he suffered late last season prevented him from training with the main group since the 2021 AFL National Draft.
