Speaking on AFL Nation in 2022, Bulldogs’ Ameet Bains felt the Sam has what it takes to be a senior player.

The third-generation Western Bulldog was the second pick in the 2021 AFL national draft as a father-son selection. He impressed many throughout Vic Metro fixtures – kicking six goals in a U19s trial game. He has also played on a wing for Oakleigh Chargers.

Darcy has played many positions in the reserves – the ruck, center half-back, key defense, center half-forward, and deep forward. He has displayed his ability to be a strong marking target and to collect balls at ground level.

Sam Darcy joined Western Bulldogs in November 2021. He re-signed with the AFL club for two years until the end of 2025. He made his AFL debut for the Western Bulldogs at Docklands Stadium with ten disposals and eight marks in a 17-point loss to Fremantle in August 2022.

Darcy returned to the field with Footscray in round eight of the VFL in 2022. He arrived at Whitten Oval with an ongoing navicular bone stress fracture in his foot.

The injury he suffered late last season prevented him from training with the main group since the 2021 AFL National Draft.
