The 41-year-old mother of four has covered stories across Melbourne and around Victoria for the 6 pm bulletin. She was a weather presenter for Nine News Local’s regional weather bulletins. She is married to Chris Stanko.

Sonia Marinelli is an advocate for women being able to pursue careers and motherhood. She joined the broadcast industry in 2008 at Nine’s Melbourne newsroom.

The presenter has covered stories from Victoria to Melbourne for the 6 pm and other afternoon bulletins for the Today Show and Weekend Today. She has worked as a weather presenter for 9News Melbourne.

Sonia became the weather presenter for 9 Local News Victoria after the launch of a new news program targeting in 2016. She writes, produces, and presents weather bulletins targeting Victorian regions.

Apart from her well-established onscreen career, Sonia has other side hustles. She is a Master of ceremonies (MC) and stands as comfortable as she would in front of a TV camera.

Personal Life

Sonia Marinelli tied the knot with Chris Stanko on 12 March 2012. The couple has four children together – Roman, Ava, Easton, and Vivienne.

Sonia and Chris share caring for their children evenly, with her doing the morning and the drop-offs. Her husband does the afternoon pick-up, and they do the evenings together.

In 2017, Sonia Marinelli’s then 11-month-old son Easton suffered a seizure. The experience left her helpless and traumatized. He was rode to the Royal Children’s Hospital in the back of the ambulance in her arms.

Sonia Marinelli welcomed her daughter, Vivienne, in 2018. She returned to presenting work when her baby was barely four months old. The same year, her mother, Rita, was diagnosed with Lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphatic system.

Rita survived after rounds of chemotherapy, secondary brain cancer, radiation, and a life-saving stem cell transplant.
