The expert expert in Southeast Asian cuisine is a known online content creator on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. He has over 20 years of experience in the kitchen and inspires the next generation of home cooks.

Early Life

Vincent Yeow Lim was born on 7 October 1994 in Temple, Texas. His late father, Danny Lim, owned a Chinese restaurant. He grew up in Malaysia, and later, his family settled in Perth and ran a restaurant.

His story starts with a bowl of fried rice. At eight years old, Vincent first learned how to cook. He and his father cooked fried rice together in the kitchen.

After relocating to Perth with his family, his friends at school called him Dim Sim, and he liked it. 

By 13, Vincent could use a wok to serve customers, and at 15 years, he became an expert. He joined his family at the restaurant at 3 pm after school and worked until they closed at 9 pm.

Education

Vincent Yeow Lim studied Geographic Information Science in Perth. After his father passed away, he stopped school and opened Lawson Chinese Restaurant in the Blue Mountains.

Lim worked with his father as the head chef for Singapore Airlines and the chef manager for Emirate’s first-class lounge in Perth.

Career

Vincent Yeow Lim, aka Dim Sim Lim, has been branded Australia’s Wolf of Wok Street. He has made many television appearances, including on Channel 7, The Cook Up, The Morning Show, Snackmasters, Channel 10, and SBS.

At 22 years old, Lim had opened his 200-seater restaurant. He sold his restaurant, Lawson Chinese, to free up his time. He helps the restaurant with marketing. It has continued with the Lim family recipes and sauces.

Lim cooked a Flaming Hotpot in 10 minutes in a MasterChef Mystery box aired on Channel 10 in 2024. He has cooked for celebrities, such as Rafael Nadal, Daniel Riccardo, and the Prince of Dubai while working at the first-class lounge at Emirates.

His exceptional culinary skills earned him a spot to cook and host the Australian Music Awards. He collaborated with KFC to create the Peking Cluk Burger. 

His trademark catchphrase, a little bit of yum yum, was to educate the world about MSG, though he never used MSG at Lawson Chinese.

Lim appeared on the front cover of Blue Mountains Newspaper after his restaurant became one of the Top 3 restaurants in West Sydney. He appeared in season two of the TV Show Snack Masters.

The highly esteemed chef has showcased wok cooking to the world through social media. Since the COVID-19 pandemic affected businesses, 

Lim began to post on social media to help his business. He also wanted to make some wok content since everyone else focused on cooking pasta and steaks.

His first post was a  KFC chicken rice hack video to show how to cook leftover KFC in a rice cooker. The video hit 20 million views. Lim is one of Australia’s most online content creators, with his food-based videos hitting over 1.2 billion views.
